If your contract includes Video Manager Pro or Plus, you gain access to additional smart features for managing video content in Mediaflow. For example, you can divide your videos into different chapters, create playlists, and customise the theme for your video player. You'll also have access to compiled statistics for your videos.
Chapters
Dividing your video into chapters is convenient for longer videos where you want to direct viewers to a specific section. This is particularly useful for content like lectures, Q&A sessions, or city council meetings.
To create chapters, open the video file in Video Manager and go to Chapters. To add a new chapter, select Add Chapter. You can name your chapter and input the time codes for when the chapter should start and end. You can name a chapter for each language if your video has multiple language options. You can enter the time manually or set it automatically by matching the cursor position in the player. This will select the time corresponding to the frame where the cursor is in the media player. Leaving the end time field empty will automatically set it to when the next chapter begins. After saving your chapter, you can continue adding new ones.
Enabling the chapters in the media player makes them visible to viewers. This activates an icon listing your chapters, allowing viewers to navigate between them.
Setting the Theme for the Media Player
By creating your own video themes, you can customise the appearance of the media player. This lets you align the player with your brand’s visual identity or have different themes for different types of videos.
To create a new video theme, go to Settings > Video. If you don’t see this option, it is because you don't have the necessary permissions to administrate Mediaflow.
In the Player Themes view, you can create your theme and configure its settings. Under Default Settings, you can set options such as embedding code, whether to allow autoplay and the default language.
In the Appearance section, you can specify colour codes for various player fields. For example, you can change the colour of the play button, background, and text.
Your themes will then be visible when you embed a video using an embed code. You can select a theme for the specific video here. You can also select a video theme when creating playlists so that all videos in the list have the same theme. This option is available under the embed code for the specific playlist.
Good to Know
The Mediaflow player theme is set as the default theme for all accounts. This theme cannot be deleted from your account, but you can set your custom theme as the default by editing it and selecting Set as Default. This theme will then be automatically selected unless the user makes an active choice.
Playlists
Creating a playlist with multiple videos is useful if you want to help viewers find related videos more easily. For example, you can gather all videos on a specific topic into a playlist or create a playlist with several short video clips you want to play in a particular order. This can be used for digital training, for instance.
To create a playlist, go to the Video tab in the left menu and select New Playlist. You can give your playlist a suitable name and write a brief description of what the list contains. You can also choose which groups in Mediaflow should manage the list and how the videos in the list should be sorted.
You can choose which videos to include in the playlist by editing it and selecting Add Video. This allows you to browse folders and select video files to add to your playlist.
If you want to add multiple videos to a list at once or create a new playlist from several selected videos, you can select your videos in the media library, right-click, and choose Add to Playlist.
Publishing a Playlist
To make your playlist visible to viewers, publish it using an embed code. You can find this by selecting Options > Embed Code.
You can choose how to embed your playlist (with Javascript, responsive iframe, or iframe) and copy the code.
You can also configure more advanced settings for your playlist. These include:
-
Whether the following clip should play automatically.
-
Whether the other videos in the list should be visible below the video player (this option is only available if embedding with Javascript).
-
Whether the video should start automatically when the page loads.
-
Whether the video should play without sound.
-
Whether the viewer should be able to download or share the video.
-
Which language should be the default for the video player.
-
Which language should be the default for the video itself (if multiple language options are linked to the video file).
-
Which subtitle should be the default (if subtitles are linked to the video file). This option also ensures that the subtitle is automatically turned on for the viewer.
After publishing a playlist, an icon will appear in the upper right corner of the video player. From this list, the viewer can choose which video to play.
Sharing and Downloading from the Video Player
When embedding a video or playlist, you can also choose whether viewers should be able to share or download the original video from the video player. You configure this setting in the embed code for a playlist or an individual video file.
Once your video or playlist is published, icons for downloading and sharing will appear in the video player.
Now, viewers can select the quality they want for the downloaded video (1080p or 720p).
If you allow sharing, viewers can choose to share using a URL, an embed code, or directly to social media platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, and X.
Video Statistics
You'll find comprehensive statistics for your video files in the Video tab in the left panel. Here, you can view aggregated statistics, such as total views and most-watched videos, as well as statistics for individual video files. You can sort the statistics by different dates and search for a specific video.
