With the Umbraco integration, you can publish images and videos from Mediaflow directly on your website or intranet. This provides editors with easy access to GDPR-secured files with correct alt texts and accessibility-adapted videos, without needing to download them to their own computer. Umbraco users therefore do not need a separate login to Mediaflow. (However, they may have a logged-in user in Mediaflow for other purposes.)
Getting Started with the Integration
You can start using the integration as soon as it has been installed in Umbraco. For the files to be selected and used optimally, you need to have prepared the settings for them in Mediaflow first.
Publish Images in Umbraco
On the document types where you have specified Mediaflow as a property, you will have a button named Open Mediaflow.
Click Open Mediaflow.
Mediaflow’s file picker opens
You can now select a folder and choose a file to insert into Umbraco. Click Use this file when you have found the desired file.
Of course, you can also search for files.
If you choose to include AI keywords in the search, you will get hits on keywords that Mediaflow’s AI service has linked to the file, but which you have not yet chosen to add to the files.
Select a download preset if you wish or crop the image as needed. If alt text is mandatory, you will not be able to insert the image unless you have provided a descriptive text for the image. If such text is provided in Mediaflow, the text will appear in the alt text field. You can also choose to create an AI-generated alt text by clicking the purple AI icon in the top right corner of the field.
Then click Use this file, after which the image is inserted into Umbraco.
Continue editing the page in Umbraco or choose to save and publish the page by clicking the buttons at the bottom of the page.
Where do the files end up?The integration saves a local copy of the image you insert into Umbraco, in the folder you have specified under Settings. If you have not specified any folder, a default folder named Mediaflow is created and used to save the files.
Publish Video in Umbraco
Videos are inserted in the same way as images, except that the videos are not saved locally in Umbraco but embedded, in the same way as embedding videos from, for example, Vimeo or YouTube.
- Click Open Mediaflow.
- Search for the file or go to the folder where the video is located and click on it.
- Click Use this file in the information tab on the right when you have found the desired video.
- In the next step, you can choose whether to use JavaScript or iframe for embedding the video. We recommend JavaScript, but depending on how your Umbraco is configured, you may need to use iframe.
You can also set whether you want the video to start at a specific time and whether the video should start playing immediately when the webpage loads.
Depending on which parts of the Mediaflow platform you have in your agreement, you may also have options for different themes in the video player.
Click Use this file when you want to insert the video into Umbraco. - If you have chosen JavaScript, it says "Embedded video" in the field. If you have chosen iframe, a small version of the embedded video is shown.
Publish Documents in Umbraco
Just like with images and videos, it is also possible to insert other files via the File Picker in Umbraco.
The files are handled the same way as images and copied to Umbraco, where they become available to be displayed in the views that build the website.
Publish Content in Running Text
In addition to being able to link Mediaflow to individual fields, it is also possible to insert files from Mediaflow in running text.
To use the Mediaflow property in an editor, you must first enable blocks in the editor. This block must then contain Mediaflow’s property.
You can then place these blocks wherever you want in the running text and move them around within the text.
