With the integration into Wagtail, you can publish your images and videos from Mediaflow directly on your website. This is a great way for editors to always have access to GDPR-compliant files, properly set alt texts, and accessibility-optimised videos. Wagtail users do not need to download files to their computers first, nor do they need a Mediaflow login. (However, they can still have a Mediaflow login if needed for other purposes.)
Get started with the Integration
You can start using the integration as soon as it is installed in Wagtail. To ensure that files can be selected and used optimally, you must first configure the necessary settings in Mediaflow.
Publish images and videos in Wagtail
To insert an image or video as a block within the text, type a forward slash “(/)". This will bring up a formatting menu where you can choose to insert a Mediaflow video or image on the page you are creating.
You can also have media fields in Wagtail where you can insert images or videos similarly.
Publish images in Wagtail
Regardless of whether you insert images by typing “/" and selecting an image or by adding an image to a media field, the following steps are the same:
In the file selection window, choose “Insert from Mediaflow.” This will display the folders shared with the Wagtail integration, along with images that meet the criteria for insertion into Wagtail (e.g., GDPR-approved images).
Select the image you want to insert and click “Use this file.”
In the next step, you can:
-
Adjust the size manually or use predefined download formats.
-
Change the file name.
-
Write a custom alt text or use AI to generate one by clicking the small star icon to the right of the Alt text field and selecting the desired language.
Finally, click “Use this file” to insert the image into your Wagtail page.
ℹ️ Media library
Images are saved in the default media folder, just like other images. It is not possible to select a specific folder to store the images from Mediaflow.
Publish video in Wagtail
If you choose to insert a video, the file selector will open, showing only video files from the folders you have shared with Wagtail.
Media folder
Images are saved in the default media folder, just like other images. It is not possible to select a specific folder to store the images from Mediaflow.
Select the video you want to embed on your Wagtail page. Choose whether it should start automatically when visitors access the page. Set a Start Offset if you want the video to begin at a specific point.
Decide whether to embed the video using JavaScript (recommended) or as an iFrame.
Click “Choose” to embed the video on the page.
