This article is for those of you who want to export all or large parts of your material from Mediaflow. Using FTP, you can include the entire folder structure.
Connection is made using FTP over TLS (FTPS) or SFTP. Unencrypted FTP is not supported.
What is the FTP protocol?
File Transfer Protocol or FTP is one of the earliest popular file transfer protocols for the Internet. Mediaflow supports two secure variants: FTPS (FTP over TLS) and SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol). First, check how much data you plan to export in one go. If your files total more than 50 GB, we recommend that you contact our support team before starting the transfer.
Which FTP client program do I need?
Some web browsers have a built-in FTP client, but they offer limited settings and the import may fail. We therefore recommend using a dedicated FTP client that supports both FTPS and SFTP. We recommend the free client FileZilla, which you can find if you follow this link.
Where can I find my FTP login details?
Your FTP/SFTP credentials can be found at the top of the file view, under the upload button. The host and username are the same for both protocols — only the port differs:
- FTPS: port 21 (explicit TLS)
- SFTP: port 2221
Configure FileZilla
Once you have downloaded and launched the program on your computer, you need to:
1. Create a new connection to Mediaflow.
Go to File – Site Manager.
Click “New Site” and enter the host and credentials shown in your Mediaflow account.
- In the “Protocol” field, choose one of:
- FTP – File Transfer Protocol on port 21, then in “Encryption” select Require explicit FTP over TLS (FTPS).
- SFTP – SSH File Transfer Protocol on port 2221 (no separate encryption setting required).
2. In the “Charset” tab, set “Force UTF-8”.
If you skip this setting, your folder and file names may be changed during import.
3. Then click “Connect” to connect to Mediaflow’s server.
If the connection is successful, it will be indicated in the message window at the top.
